Google Personalized Search Launched
Search giant Google yesterday announced that Google Personalized Search has graduated from Google Labs and will now be offered to users on creating a new Google Account.
Personalized Search is an improvement over Google search that orders results based on previous queries. Learning from the history of searches and search results that have been clicked on, Personalized Search brings results closer to the top when it's clear that they're most relevant to the user. For example, a user who recently searched on iPod accessories and who enters a query on apple would be shown results related to the computer manufacturer before those related to fruit.
Additionally it also includes a 'Remove Results' feature, which allows users control over search results enabling them to remove unwanted results from future searches. International Expansion makes the search available in 39 domains and 12 languages with Personalized Homepage in 17 domains and 12 languages. Features like Bookmarks & Searchable Labels enable users to create bookmarks and add searchable labels and notes to any item in their search history. Since these are created through a Google account, this information is accessible from any computer by signing in to their account.
Google also recently announced Google Desktop 2, out of beta, with a number of enhancements like new third-party panels and expanded plug-in development options. Google Desktop combines desktop search with an intelligent sidebar that learns the user's habits and interests to offer all the information of interest to them in one convenient location.
In conjunction with the Google Search Appliance and Mini, Google Desktop for Enterprise, delivers one-stop searching across the desktop, intranet and the web. It offers features such as personalized maps panel, enhanced API, new third-party plug-ins and enterprise features. Both, the Google Desktop and Google Desktop for Enterprise are available for free download. The Google Desktop team has also launched a new blog for users and developers to find out the latest information about Google Desktop.
